What You Get When You Come to Hearthnest

A clear-eyed look at why adults preparing for retirement find our approach different from what they have tried before.

The Core Advantages

Six things that participants consistently point to as making a material difference to their experience.

Genuine Facilitation Expertise

Our facilitators have spent years running adult reading and reflection programmes. They know how to hold a conversation that goes somewhere — without turning it into a lecture or letting it drift.

A Structured Programme Rather Than an Event

Our programmes run over months, not hours. There are follow-up materials, written summaries, and in the case of the coaching block, a note sent one month after completion. Preparation does not end when the session does.

Transparent About What We Are Not

We are not financial planners, lawyers, or therapists. We say so plainly and we actively direct participants toward those specialists when the conversation calls for it. That clarity makes our participants feel safe to think out loud.

Malaysian Materials, Malaysian Focus

EPF, KWSP, and locally published household-finance readers are at the centre of our reading selections. Participants are not adapting foreign frameworks — they are working with resources made for their actual situation.

Personal Coaching That Follows Through

The records coaching block is four sessions spread over two months, with a follow-up check a month after completion. The template materials are printed and handed over, not emailed and forgotten.

Pricing That Reflects Real Value

Our fees cover facilitator time, reading materials, printed templates, and follow-up notes. There are no hidden add-ons, no upsell paths, and no subscription that auto-renews. What you enrol in is what you receive.

Facilitation Built on Experience

Adult conversation facilitation is a distinct skill. It is not the same as lecturing, and it is not the same as therapy. Our lead facilitator, Roslan Lim, has fifteen years of practice running community reading programmes for working adults in the Klang Valley. He knows when to let silence do its work and when to redirect a conversation that has gone off the rails.

In practice, this means reading group sessions produce genuine insights rather than polite agreement. Participants leave with something they did not walk in with — a reframed question, a useful distinction, a document they now know they need to find.

A Programme, Not a One-Off

Attending a single talk about retirement is not the same as working through it. Our programmes are designed around the understanding that preparation is a process. The reading group meets monthly. The coaching block spreads across two months with four sessions and a follow-up. The calendar planning year gives participants a full twelve months of structured engagement.

At each stage, there is something tangible to take away — a written summary, a set of templates, a list of questions to bring to professionals. Participants do not leave empty-handed.

A Comfortable Place to Think Aloud

Our Bangsar Baru premises are deliberately not corporate. Sessions are held in a setting that feels more like a well-kept reading room than a training facility. The physical environment matters when you are discussing something as personal as how you want to spend the years after full-time work.

We also keep groups small — no more than ten in a reading group, always one-on-one for coaching. Participants name this consistently as something that changes the quality of what they are able to say.

Pricing That Is Clear From the Start

The Pre-Retirement Reading Group is RM 480 per month. The Household Records Coaching Block is RM 1,840 for the full block of four sessions. The Retirement Calendar Planning Year is RM 3,000 for the full twelve-month programme. These figures include all materials, templates, and follow-up.

There is no introductory price that rises later. No supplementary materials sold separately. No products recommended for purchase. We do not have commission arrangements with any external provider.

How Hearthnest Compares

A factual look at what distinguishes a structured reading and coaching programme from the alternatives many people consider.

Typical Alternatives

  • One-day seminars with little follow-up
  • Generic templates not adapted to Malaysian context
  • Sessions that combine education with product sales
  • Large groups where individual questions go unaddressed
  • Materials emailed out with no guided discussion
  • Programmes run by organisations with referral incentives

The Hearthnest Approach

  • Monthly sessions across several months, with written summaries
  • EPF, KWSP, and Malaysian-published reading materials
  • No products, no referral fees — programme fees only
  • Groups capped at ten; one-on-one coaching option available
  • Printed templates worked through in person with a coach
  • Independent facilitation with no external commission arrangements

What Makes Hearthnest Distinctive

A Reading List That Actually Makes Sense in Malaysia

We build our reading schedules from publicly available Malaysian government primers and international books on life transitions that have been reviewed for local relevance. There is no single approved reading list for this area — ours is assembled with care, reviewed each year, and available to participants in advance of each session.

Document Templates That Travel Home With You

The templates used in coaching sessions are printed, not digital. They are designed to be filled in by hand, kept in a physical folder, and referred to again years later. We have found that participants use physical documents differently — more carefully, more consistently — than files stored somewhere on a device.

The One-Month Follow-Up

Coaching block participants receive a written follow-up note one month after their final session. The note reviews the organisational structure they built and notes any steps that remain. This is unusual in the coaching industry and it matters — one month is long enough for the initial momentum to have faded and short enough that nothing has gone too far astray.

Monthly Discussion Calls in the Annual Programme

The Retirement Calendar Planning Year includes a monthly community discussion call between quarterly workshops. This means participants have eleven touchpoints with the programme community over the year, not just four. Questions do not sit unanswered for three months.
